‘Masomat’ meat vending machines from Farma Basařovi
In May this year, we implemented our payment technology in an interesting project: self-service meat vending machines known as ‘Masomat’.
While drinks vending machines stand on almost every corner, meat vending machines are still few and far between. One of the first appeared in the Czech Republic back in 2021, in the village of Prosečné near Vrchlabí – see the video. The idea came from Farma Basařovi, which began using it to sell its popular matured meat from Aberdeen Angus cattle. Interest in this form of self-service beef sales was so great that two more meat vending machines were added a few months later.
The advantage of these machines lies not only in being able to buy meat whenever you want – 24/7. The machines maintain a constant temperature, so the meat not only keeps for a long time but also matures beautifully before it is dispensed. Self-service sales also make it easy to distribute quality matured meat from local farmers straight to the consumer. The farm is thus self-sufficient, independent of distribution to large supermarkets, and can personally guarantee the high quality and freshness of its product at a fair price. This is entirely in keeping with the sustainable ethos of Farma Basařovi, where the owners generate their own electricity and heat in a biogas plant, run a lovely guesthouse and provide agricultural services in the surrounding area.
Another of their projects was the Farmářský dům shop and online store, where you will find not only their own products but also other quality regional food from local farmers. For this approach and their innovations, they won the Farm of the Year 2022 award.
Together with the vending machine supplier – Automaty Sixta – we integrated Ingenico Self/2000 payment terminals into the meat vending machines using the MDB protocol connected to their control system. These payment terminals are popular in vending for their excellent price-performance ratio, including the option of entering a PIN on a clear colour display for payments over CZK 500. Our payment terminals replaced the original payment technology from Nayax.
This payment solution of ours, along with the BRAMAT potato vending machines already well known in Brno, neatly demonstrates that card payment can be offered on any type of vending machine. Whether the operator sells potatoes or meat, or handles the collection of parcels from online shops.
