Greater convenience at charging stations
Inconvenient payment for charging electric vehicles was one of the reasons why the switch to e-mobility in the Czech Republic was not faster. But that reason no longer applies.
Under a European Commission regulation, all newly installed charging stations for electric vehicles must be fitted with a payment terminal from April this year. This means a considerable increase in convenience for electric vehicle owners.
With card payment introduced at charging stations, electric vehicle users no longer have to install various car makers’ apps, pay through online payment gateways or scan QR codes. Simply drive up, pay and top up with energy, just as you would when refuelling at a traditional filling station. Moreover, this new regulation – part of the Fit for 55 package, which aims to achieve so-called carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050 – also applies to existing charging units. It is therefore no surprise that charging station operators are trying to implement payment technology in their charging stations as quickly as possible.
And that is our field! We are specialists in unattended payment terminals, so we are pleased that we too can contribute to the development of e-mobility in the Czech Republic. We are currently working with five major charging station suppliers, with whom we are integrating our payment technology.
One of our business partners is EVSELECT s.r.o., with whom we completed the implementation of payment technology in their charging stations at the end of the year and put into operation the first charging station with direct card payment.
In the car park of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication at Brno University of Technology (VUT), you will find a new AC charging station with two EVSELAC units, each with two 22 kW connectors, offering payment via the EVMAPA portal or on the spot by card on the Ingenico iUC 180 contactless payment terminal. We integrated our payment technology directly into the control system connected to the EVMAPA web portal, where hundreds of charging stations across the Czech Republic can be found. This is also where electric vehicle users can collect the receipt for their charging session.
We did not stop at this Brno installation, however. This year, together with EVSELECT, we put into operation two more charging stations with card payment in Kunovice and Moravská Třebová. We are now working on further payment technology implementations with other business partners in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
